Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson has once again expressed his desire to play for Gilas, the Philippine National Team, in the upcoming Olympic Qualifying Tournament in July.
In an interview with Mike Trudell of Lakers.com, Clarkson stated that moves are currently being done to provide a way for him to join the team in time of the hosting of the event in Manila.
The Laker guard has been strutting his wares in as a starter in the team’s campaign in the current National Basketball Association (NBA) season. According to Clarkson, his mother, Annette Davis, is a native of Pampanga.
Clarkson was in the Philippines last August to conduct basketball clinics to children and attended few practice sessions of Gilas and was with the team during the Jones Cup, a preliminary event that served as a tune-up tournament of the national squad before the FIBA Asia Championship last year.
The last time a basketball team represented the Philippines in the Olympics was in the 1972 Munich Games.
