London—– Manu Schmitt of Hyeres Toulon Var Basket (France Pro A) will coach French Select Team in the 2017 GBSL. Manu Schmitt will manage France Select, one of the featured international teams competing in the quarter-final tournament in Las Vegas. The international clubs will use the event to evaluate ten (10) free agent imports of their choice over a (4) day period. The event format is similar to the NBA Summer League. Hyeres Toulon Var Basket is a member of one of the top leagues in Europe (France Pro A).  They won the France (Pro B) and were promoted to France Pro A in the 2016-17 season.

Manu Schmitt of Hyeres Toulon Var Basket is looking to sign a couple of players for his club and will be providing scouting information to coaching associates in Switzerland and France.

Meet Manu Schmitt:
Manu Schmitt, the Head Coach of the Hyeres Toulon Var Basket is one of the top professional coaches in France who gained a reputation in Switzerland. He is a former player who played professionally in France for 18 years. Manu has been a professional coach since 2002 in France (Pro A) which is considered one of the top leagues in Europe. He is also the former Swiss National Team Head Coach (2004-2008). He landed his head coaching job of Union Neuchâtel in 2013 and has had immediate success. Manu Schmitt led the team to the Swiss League Cup Winner Championship in 2013-14 and a Swiss LNA Championship Finalist in the 2014-15 season. Schmitt accepted a head coaching position with Hyeres Toulon Var Basket after reaching the quarterfinals of the Swiss League Cup in the 2016-17 season.

Tim Fanning the assistant of Maccabi Tel Aviv will manage Team Oceania that will compete in the quarter-final tournament in Las Vegas. Tim will use the event to evaluate ten (10) free agent imports of his choice over a (4) day period. The event format is similar to the NBA Summer League. Maccabi Tel Aviv has established a reputation as one of the biggest teams in Europe. Maccabi Tel Aviv competes with some of the best talent of Europe, facing teams such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos.

Meet Tim Fanning
Tim Fanning is a young upcoming American coach that is making an impact in International basketball. Tim is currently an assistant coach for Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. Maccabi Tel Aviv is currently tied for third place in its domestic league and also competes in a Euro League.  His past experiences include coaching the Nelson Giants in New Zealand. In his first season as the head coach of the Nelson Giants, he guided the team to a 2nd place finish in the NBL. They were predicted to finish 7th place and were the surprise of the league. Tim is the former assistant coach for the New Zealand National Team in the 2014 World Cup in Spain. He previously served as the assistant coach for the Nelson Giants in the 2014-15 season. Tim also coached in the NBA D League for the Delaware 87ers and played professionally in Spain. Tim has a bright future in International basketball and his success as a young coach has been phenomenal.

Helsinki Seagulls Head Coach Mikko Larkas to Manage Team in GBSL

Mikko Larkas is one of the top upcoming coaches in Finnish professional basketball and will be managing a free agent team in the upcoming Global Basketball Summer League in Las Vegas. Mikko is a young coach that has a lot of experience in Finnish basketball. This upcoming year is his fourth season as the head coach of the Helsinki Seagulls, a Finnish 1st Division team. The Seagulls finished this past season tied for second place in their league and finished in third place in the playoffs. In the past he served as an assistant coach for Finnish powerhouse Tapiolan Honka and also worked with their youth programs. Mikko has been part of the National Team of Finland and has helped developed some of the top young players in the country.

GBSL Opportunity:
Mikko will use the GBSL platform to scout for new imports for the Helsinki Seagulls and network with the International basketball community. The Finnish league is an excellent league for American players to begin their careers and they are allowed to have (3) imports per team. Top leagues in Europe typically recruit American imports that have excelled in Finland.
This is an excellent opportunity for GBSL players to work with a European professional coach and showcase their talent. The GBSL provides players with (4) practices and (3) official games with NBA referees that will be televised with professional broadcasting on GBTV.

Helsinki Seagulls was established in 2013 and it acquired its place on the second level of Finnish basketball in Division I A after the dissolution of the Torpan Pojat team. The license of Torpan Pojat was then transferred to the Seagulls, along with the remaining players. The Seagulls opened their 2013-2014 season in the Division I A with winning 10 matches in a row. The team won a total of 25 of their 28 regular season games placing first in their division. Seagulls earned the promotion to Korisliig, the top league in Finland after dismissing first Tampereen Pyrintö II and then BC Nokia in the division playoffs. In the 2016-17 season, the Seagulls finished with a 25-11 record and finished in third place in the playoffs.

London Lions Summer League Team enters the 2017 GBSL Las Vegas Event

The London Lions of the British Basketball League (BBL) is a confirmed participant of the 2017 Global Basketball Summer League

The London Lions are one of the top teams in the BBL (United Kingdom) and they have a very ambitious future. In the 2016-17 season, the London Lions finished with an 18-15 record and finished sixth in the league. In the 2013 season the Lions moved into the Cooper Box, a 7,500-seat arena, which was known as the “box that rocks” during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The London Lions Chief Executive Vincent Macaulay-Razaq stated that the Lions have plans to become the première club in the BBL and use their state of the art venue to develop high level basketball events. His immediate objectives are to recruit a few high level American imports from the 2017 GBSL to help win the BBL Championship and to build a European powerhouse club.

Vincent Macaulay-Razaq the Chief Executive and head coach of the Lions has been a leading figure in British Basketball for the past (15) years. He is a former player that once played for the London Docklands Basketball Club in 1990 and was a teammate of Global Basketball’s Executive Director. Vincent Razaq is a former BBL League Chairman and has owned his particular franchise since 1998.

GBSL Selection and Registration Process
Players, agents and coaches that are interested in securing a spot on one of the GBSL teams should contact our office immediately. All participants are required to register on the GBSL site for consideration. If an applicant is selected by the club they will be required to pay the GBSL registration fee. Only high-level prospects that played in the 2016-17 season at a NCAA Division 1 program, 2016-17 Small College All Americans or players with professional experience in the NBA D League or other quality overseas leagues will be considered.
